The Labour Government's Three Waters reforms would have taken the control of water assets away from local, democratically elected councils and handed it over to unaccountable regional bodies.
Groundswell NZ held the Government and Councils to account, encouraging their supporters to send a message to their councillors in opposition to the changes, and held a series of community meetings across the lower South Island.
In 2024, the new Coalition Government repealed Three Waters, restoring local control over water assets to local communities and their democratically elected councils.
Groundswell NZ campaigned to keep that local control and many of you joined us to bring about this success. Thank you for your support.
