Beef+Lamb and DairyNZ may do some good work on research and extension, but when it comes to advocacy, they haven’t just been failing, but working directly against your interests.

The advocacy you pay for should be based on the feedback from grassroots farmers, rather than selling a predetermined agreement with Government back to farmers.

Levy bodies should be backing their levy-paying farmers and telling the Government when a policy is unworkable.

Instead, with the He Waka Eke Noa emissions pricing (Farming Tax) and both the indigenous biodiversity and freshwater national policy statements, farmers’ interests get left out of the picture.

Despite all this, DairyNZ and Beef+Lamb claim that most farmers are happy with their advocacy efforts.
