Happy NY And Beef Lamb Notice

Bryce, Laurie, Mel and the Team at Groundswell NZ

We are hitting the ground running here at Groundswell headquarters, with some important information to follow for all farmers.  If you are not a farmer, we'd love it if you could forward this email onto your rural family and friends - helping us to make sure everyone gets the message.

Beef + Lamb NZ have two Farmer Director Board positions up for election on 22 March 2023.

BUT they are closing registration for the ELECTORAL ROLL next week Friday 20 JANUARY!  Generally, our industry groups only have a voter turnout of 18-20% of farmers.  That’s a small fraction of farmers making the decisions on change and direction of the industry.

PLEASE make sure you are registered and HAVE YOUR SAY.

You are eligible to vote if you own at least

  • 250 sheep
  • 50 beef cattle
  • 100 dairy cattle – yes, DAIRY FARMERS can vote too!

In the Southern Region (Southland, Gore & Clutha) we have Andrew Morrison (also current Chair) up for re-election.  Standing against him is Geoffrey Young, who you may know from the good things he achieved as president for Southland Federated Farmers.  To get meaningful change, we need Geoffrey elected.

The other position is in the Eastern North Island Region (Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa), where the board member is stepping down, and four candidates are vying for that position.

We are preparing a questionnaire to all candidates and will publish these results, to help you choose the right person to be representing you on the board.

There are also SEVEN farmer remits (ideas for changes to constitution or direction) to vote on, and we understand these will be vitally important to have your say on.

It’s so important you are registered and can be part of making change.
